Meteorological Service of Catalonia – SMC

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) is a public entity under the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Government of Catalonia (Spain). It provides hydrological and meteorological services including the implementation and management of a network of meteorological facilities, weather prediction, disseminate the of data and products, research into measures suitable to inform the public about climate and climate change, provide meteorological information to public authorities and institutions and other users.

SMC is the main sponsor and supporter of the EMS2024: It invites all conference participants to the EMS 25th Anniversary Festa, was centrally involved in the development of the conference theme and the strategic lecture programme, made arrangements for three interesting excursions, and funds the Icebreaker reception at the eve of the conference on Sunday.

Staff of SMC has also supported the local organisation in many ways, providing information on local transport and facilities, arranged for the poster print service and many more.

The SMC will provide weather briefings each day in the main Vestibul foyer, where staff will be available all day at the SMC booth. A bag with a glass bottle for everyone to use with the water dispensers around the conference area is provided by SMC (pick-up near the badge printer).

Associació Catalana de Meteorologia

The Associació Catalana de Meteorologia (ACAM) was established in 1995, and currently has about 175 members; ACAM joined the EMS in 2015.

The main objective of ACAM is to promote research and dissemination of meteorology and climatology in the Mediterranean climate. Members of ACAM have been active in organising this EMS Annual Meeting, in particular its President Jordi Mazon, provided local contacts for many activities and vital information for the website for participants onsite. ACAM member Mireia Udina will also be contributing to the outstanding poster award selection.

Asociación Meteorologica Española

The Asociación Meteorologica Española (AME) was established in 1964, and currently has 188 members. AME has been one of the founding Members of the EMS, back in 1999.

The AME hosted the first Annual Meeting that took place in Spain: in 2007 in El Escorial.

AME has supported the development of the programme of the EMS2024, contributing to the identification of a topical theme for the conference, suggestions for the plenary events and session programme and members of AME; namely the President Ernesto Rodriguez-Camino and the Secretary Manuel Palomares (both already very committed hosts in 2007) were active on the Programme and Science Committee.

Agencia Estatal de Meteorología

The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), the National Weather Service of Spain, has supported with interest and dedication the EMS activities for many years. It was one of the first European NMS to join the EMS as an Associate Member and it provided substantial support for the first EMS meeting held in Spain at El Escorial, in 2007. AEMET was also proud to support the EMS Annual Meeting 2024 in collaboration with the local hosts, fostering and encouraging the participation from scientists coming from all parts of the country and particularly staff from AEMET or from the scientific institutions with which it has collaborations.

PRIMET

PRIMET is a pan European Trade Association for meteorological service providers operating in the private sector. It aims to promote a fair trading environment between the public and private sector in meteorology and its related disciplines. PRIMET is inviting to the Early Career Scientists Apéro networking meeting together with the EMS, and funding the event.

Solco W. Tromp Foundation

The Tromp Foundation (Foundation for Biometeorological Research), the legacy of Solco W. Tromp, is funding various awards at the EMS Annual Meetings with the intention to promote biometeorology in Europe. Biometeorology is an interdisciplinary science studying the interactions between atmospheric processes and living organisms – plants, animals and humans. It provides answers to the question: How does weather and climate impact the well-being of all living beings? The Tromp Foundation is supporting six young scientists with travel funds to attend the EMS2024 in Barcelona and funds the EMS Tromp Award for an outstanding achievement in biometeorology.

Harry Otten Prize Foundation

The Harry Otten Foundation announces the Harry Otten Prize with a biennial cycle since 2011; invited are ideas that are innovative, practical, realizable and bring Meteorology forward in society. Submissions of ideas for the 2025 prize round will open again this autumn and close in March 2025. Finalists will then be invited to present their idea during this EMS2025 and the prize winner will be announced in the Awards Session of EMS2025. The Harry Otten Foundation is sponsoring the coffee break on Tuesday afternoon.
